Want to reach new heights with your running? Try tackling some of Australia’s most epic trail races. Here are five of ultramarathons that will seriously test your endurance.
1. Six-Foot Track Marathon
The Six-Foot Track Marathon has been described as the toughest marathon in Australia, if not the world, traversing a historical trail between Katoomba and the Jenolan Caves in the Blue Mountains. The 45 kilometre route features extreme changes in elevation, river crossings and soaring temps, but all with an absolutely epic view.
2. Point to Pinnacle
This half marathon not only covers the requisite distance but also 1,270 metres in height as you leg your way up Mount Wellington, overlooking Hobart. You’ll be facing gradients above 10 percents and some very challenging weather conditions but the view is well worth the pain.
3. Buffalo Stampede
The Buffalo Stampede is a staple on the Australian running calendar and part if the internationally claimed Skyrunning circuit. This gruelling event sees runners tackle Mt Buffalo in Victoria’s Alpine country over a variety of distances including 20km, 75km and 42km. You can even take on all three in the Buffalo Grand Slam.

Take on one of Australia’s greatest natural wonders with the Great Ocean Walk 100s Trail Ultramarathon. This stunning 100km route follows the southwest coast of Victoria – made up of mostly a single track as well as a bit of beach – finishing up at 12 Apostles.
